KT to Train 3,600 'Artificial Intelligence Experts' Over 3 Years

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] KT announced on the 24th that it is recruiting the first batch of students for the AI·DX talent development program ‘KT Able School’ aimed at enhancing youth employment competitiveness.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and operated by KT, KT Able School is a program targeting young people aged 29 and under. Its goal is to nurture young talents in AI (Artificial Intelligence) and DX (Digital Transformation) who can work professionally in companies.

KT is the first company to participate in the government’s ‘Youth Hope ON’ project, which aims to improve youth employment competitiveness. Starting with the first batch this year, KT plans to train 3,600 people over three years, with 1,200 people annually.

The curriculum consists of two tracks: the ‘AI Developer Track’ for training AI service developers and the ‘DX Consultant Track’ for leading the digital industry. Recruitment will take place over two weeks from October 25 to November 5. A total of 600 students will be selected, and admitted students will begin their education in December.

At KT Able School, KT AI experts directly design the curriculum and serve as project instructors to help students gain practical corporate experience. The program delivers KT’s proprietary AI talent development course, verified through its flagship talent development initiative, the ‘Future Talent Development Project,’ to young job seekers.

The program offers the opportunity to obtain the private certification ‘AIFB,’ which certifies practical AI skills required by companies. Outstanding students will also receive preferential hiring benefits from the KT Group. AIFB is a qualification that tests practical AI utilization capabilities needed in the workplace.

KT Able School is open to unemployed individuals aged 29 and under who have graduated or are expected to graduate from a four-year university, regardless of their major. Students can receive education at one of six regional bases nationwide?Seoul, Daejeon, Gwangju, Busan, Daegu, and Wonju?and will undergo intensive training for 840 hours over six months, eight hours a day, starting in December.

Jinyoungshim, Senior Executive Director of KT Group Talent Development Office, said, “KT is the first company to participate in the government’s ‘Youth Hope ON’ project. As a national company, we will do our best to support the competitiveness and job creation for Korean youth.” He added, “We will focus on nurturing talents desired by companies by utilizing KT’s ABC technologies and through our talent development projects.”

KT Able School is offered completely free of charge, and trainees can receive up to 2 million KRW in training support funds if they obtain the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s training incentive through the ‘National Tomorrow Learning Card.’ More detailed information is available on the ‘KT Able School’ website.

Meanwhile, KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo announced on the 7th of last month at the KT Research and Development Center in Umyeon-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, during an on-site meeting with Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, that KT will promote a free AI education project to solve national employment issues and enhance youth employment competitiveness.
