Samsung, KT, SK, and POSCO to Train 3,100 Digital Talent Annually... Vocational Training Starting December


[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Leading domestic companies such as Samsung, KT, SK Hynix, and POSCO will nurture 3,100 digital talents annually. The government expects the employment creation effect of 'K-Digital Training,' which offers vocational training courses in digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, to increase significantly.


The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training announced on the 24th that they will select these companies' programs as 'Digital Leading Company Academy' training courses and begin recruiting trainees from the 25th. The Digital Leading Company Academy is a new type of training attempted within K-Digital Training, a vocational training program in digital and new technology fields, based on the 'Public-Private Cooperation Software Talent Development Plan' and the 'Second Half Economic Policy Direction.'


Trainees will receive support for training fees as well as separate monthly training incentives through the National Tomorrow Learning Card. They can also receive employment support provided by each company upon participation and completion. The National Tomorrow Learning Card is a training fee support system available to anyone who applies either by visiting a nearby employment center or through the vocational training portal website. Following the amendment of the 'Enforcement Decree of the Worker Vocational Competency Development Act' on the 17th of last month, the issuance target has been expanded from university graduates to those with less than two years remaining in their university studies, such as third-year university students.


Samsung, KT, SK Hynix, and POSCO plan to nurture 3,100 talents annually through the five selected training courses. KT will recruit trainees from the 25th to operate the training course starting in December. Samsung is recruiting trainees to operate the 7th cohort of the Samsung Youth Software Academy (SSAFY), scheduled to begin in January next year. POSCO plans to recruit trainees from the end of the year to open a training course in February next year. SK Hynix plans to open training courses and recruit trainees in the first half of next year.
