Performance Play 'Hwangyeong Maeul' Raises Environmental Awareness Through a Humorous Satire on Water Shortage Issues
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) will hold the Banggeure (Visiting Green Training) environmental musical "Environmental Village," which combines environment and art to convey the importance of the environment in an enjoyable way, on October 26 at Da-il Tourism High School.
Now in its second year, the Banggeure environmental musical is a visiting environmental education program that integrates art and environmental education. It was planned to create a happy ECO Yangcheon where everyone can smile Banggeure through environmental education experienced as a pleasant performance in daily life.
The performance "Environmental Village" is an adaptation of "Urintown (Ojummaeul)," which won awards for directing, script, and composition on Broadway for its originality and commercial success. It humorously satirizes the toilet problems occurring in a city using paid water supply due to severe water shortages, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation.
The performance will open at 2 p.m. on the 26th in the auditorium of Da-il Tourism High School.
The Banggeure environmental musical will be operated in strict compliance with quarantine rules to prevent COVID-19 infection. On-site viewing will be minimized and conducted in small groups, and online viewing will be simultaneously available with a live broadcast on YouTube (Yangcheon TV).

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "We prepared the Banggeure environmental musical, which combines culture, art, and environmental education, so that the importance of environmental conservation can be recognized more familiarly," adding, "I hope this performance will be a meaningful time for our students to realize the importance of the environment and become future environmental guardians."
