Remodeling Project Completed for Improving Streetscape and Preventing Safety Accidents at Aging Retaining Walls in Sinwol-dong 625-2 Area
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Sooyoung) has completed a remodeling project on the aging retaining wall in the area of 625-2 Sinwol-dong to improve the residential area's street environment aesthetics and prevent safety accidents.
The retaining wall is a concrete L-shaped wall (L=53.8m, H=1m~5.1m) located near a residential area and serves as an entrance path for walking in Gyenam Neighborhood Park, a place with heavy foot traffic. However, due to aging, cracks in the concrete and material separation have caused aesthetic deterioration and raised concerns about safety accidents, highlighting the need for refurbishment.
In response, residents applied for a resident participation budget project for remodeling the aging retaining wall at the foot of Sinjeongsan Mountain. Accordingly, Yangcheon-gu invested 130 million KRW from the resident participation budget to carry out the remodeling in earnest.
After a detailed safety inspection earlier this year, the district focused on durability by repairing the old and deteriorated retaining wall surface. Additionally, instead of simple murals, a technique using art tiles was employed to create vibrant tile murals, distinguishing them from existing murals.
Furthermore, the mural design selection involved a prior survey of design preferences among residents, applying a design that tells the story of the four seasons. As a result, the retaining wall was reborn as a bright wall reflecting the seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, receiving enthusiastic responses from local residents.
Kim Sooyoung, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “I am very pleased that the previously old and dull section has been transformed into a bright and beautiful area through the remodeling of the aging retaining wall at the foot of Sinjeongsan Mountain.” He added, “We will continue to listen carefully to every small opinion from our residents and do our best to make Yangcheon-gu a developing district.”
