Agreement Signed with Landowners of Idle Land within Urban Regeneration Project Sites

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) signed a public-private partnership agreement last month to accelerate the project of creating public parking lots by utilizing idle land within the Seoul-style alleyway regeneration project area, which was proposed and selected by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in the second half of 2020 to resolve chronic parking shortages.
The "Idle Land Public Parking Lot Creation Project" is a project that creates parking lots by utilizing idle land that has been left unused for a long time in urban areas. Landowners can earn income by utilizing otherwise useless land, and from the district office’s perspective, it is a project that solves parking problems and improves urban aesthetics.
The district office signed agreements of at least two years with landowners of idle land within the urban regeneration project area to alleviate alley parking shortages.
The public parking lot to be created in Jongam-dong is approximately 75 pyeong (about 248 square meters), with plans to create 10 parking spaces. Once completed, applications for resident-priority parking will be accepted through the Seongbuk-gu Urban Management Corporation.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “With this agreement, we can put more effort into the idle land utilization public parking lot creation project,” and added, “We expect this parking lot project to have multiple benefits, including resolving parking shortages in the Jongam-dong area and improving urban aesthetics.”
