COVID-19 Confirmed Cases Reach 1,223 by 6 PM... 8 More Than Previous Day [Image source=Yonhap News]

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases has recorded four digits for 108 consecutive days.


According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, a total of 1,223 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide from midnight to 6 p.m. on the day. This is 8 more than the 1,215 cases recorded at the same time the previous day, but 83 fewer than the 1,306 cases reported a week ago on the 15th.


Looking at the regions where confirmed cases were reported on the day, 969 cases (79.2%) were in the metropolitan area, and 254 cases (20.8%) were in non-metropolitan areas.


By city and province, there were 456 cases in Seoul, 418 in Gyeonggi, 95 in Incheon, 59 in Gyeongnam, 47 in Chungbuk, 36 in Busan, 35 in Gyeongbuk, 20 in Daegu, 19 in Chungnam, 12 in Gangwon, 7 each in Gwangju and Jeonbuk, 5 in Jeonnam, 3 each in Daejeon and Jeju, and 1 in Ulsan.


Among the 17 cities and provinces nationwide, Sejong has not yet reported any confirmed cases.


Since there is still time until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced based on midnight on the 23rd is expected to increase further to the 1,400 range. The previous day saw an increase of 225 cases after 6 p.m., closing at a final count of 1,440.


The fourth domestic wave, which began in early July, has continued for over three months. The daily number of confirmed cases has recorded four digits for 108 consecutive days since July 7 (1,211 cases). Among these, the average daily number of locally transmitted cases excluding imported cases is 1,354.
