[Muan＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Park Seong-gi, a level 6 facility officer in the Environment Department of Muan County Office, Jeollanam-do, received a commendation from the Jeonnam Police Agency Chief on the occasion of the 76th Police Day for discovering the body of a woman in her 70s who went missing due to last year's flood.
On February 28, Park discovered a corpse while performing environmental cleanup work along the Yeongsan River in Ildo-eup and reported it to the police. Identification confirmed that the body was that of a woman in her 70s who went missing on August 7 last year due to flooding near the Gwangju Stream.
Park said, "I was surprised to find a corpse during work, but at the same time, I felt a sense of accomplishment knowing the missing person could safely return to her family. I will continue to faithfully perform my duties as a public official to satisfy the residents."
Kim Jae-gyu, Chief of Jeonnam Police Agency, stated, "On the occasion of the 76th Police Day, I express my gratitude on behalf of the Jeonnam police to Officer Park Seong-gi for helping solve the missing person case and contributing to social safety and public security."
Meanwhile, last November, Officer Park also saved the life of an 80-year-old senior who collapsed from traumatic brain hemorrhage on a bicycle path next to Mokpo Waterfront Park, serving as a role model to those around him.
