Kia Presents EV6 to Global Ambassador Rafael Nadal

Nadal Demonstrates EV6 'V2L' Feature in Person at Handover Ceremony, Illuminates Tennis Court

Kia Presents EV6 to Global Ambassador Rafael Nadal

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] On the 21st (local time), Kia announced on the 22nd that it delivered its first dedicated electric vehicle model, the EV6, to Rafael Nadal, Kia's global ambassador, at the Rafa Nadal Academy located in Mallorca, Spain. Nadal is a Spanish tennis player who has won a total of 20 trophies at the world's four Grand Slam tournaments.

The delivery ceremony was held to coincide with the European launch of the EV6, and the model provided to Nadal was the EV6 GT-line. Nadal plans to actively use the EV6 as a means of transportation not only in the Mallorca area where he currently resides but also at tennis tour events such as the 2022 Australian Open.

At the delivery ceremony, Nadal demonstrated various customer experiences offered by the EV6, including illuminating the tennis court lights using the 'V2L (Vehicle To Load)' function, which allows flexible power usage. V2L is a portable power supply device that uses battery power to operate external electronic devices. The V2L applied to the EV6 provides a power consumption of 3.6 kW, which is more than the average hourly electricity consumption (3 kW) of a typical household.

Nadal stated, "I want to maintain a continuous pursuit of a sustainable lifestyle by showing interest in electric vehicles represented by the EV6. I am happy to start this change with the EV6 and hope it can inspire many people."

Artur Martins, Head of Kia Customer Experience Division (Executive Vice President), said, "Nadal is the perfect person to accompany the journey with the EV6 as a global ambassador representing Kia's brand vision. We plan to provide diverse and meaningful experiences for a sustainable future to more people together with Nadal."

Meanwhile, the EV6 is Kia's first dedicated electric vehicle model based on the mid- to long-term business strategy Plan S. It has already forecasted success in the global market, achieving 7,300 pre-orders in April alone during the pre-booking period in major European countries including Spain, the UK, Germany, and France, where the delivery ceremony was held.
