[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] On the second day of the Dokdo maritime vessel capsizing accident on the 21st, 2 of the 9 missing crew members were rescued and 1 was confirmed dead.
According to the Korea Coast Guard, at around 7:34 a.m. that day, one crew member was found dead in the wheelhouse of the accident vessel. The identity has not been confirmed. At 7:21 a.m., two Chinese crew members drifting in nearby waters were rescued by a civilian fishing boat. The Coast Guard deployed additional vessels 3007 and 1003 to the accident site to search for the remaining 6 missing persons.
In this regard, Moon Sung-hyuk, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, held an emergency situation inspection meeting the previous day and instructed to do their utmost for the rescue of lives. Coast Guard ships, nearby fishery guidance vessels, East Sea Coast Guard helicopters, and Japan Coast Guard vessels were deployed to the accident site.
Also, Um Ki-doo, Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, visited the Gyeongbuk Uljin Hupo Fisheries Cooperative, where the regional accident response headquarters was established, at 1 p.m. that day to meet with the families of the crew members. He said, "We will do our best in search and rescue operations."
