[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] On the occasion of the 76th 'Police Day,' Commissioner General Kim Chang-ryong of the National Police Agency pledged to advance as a police force that realizes 'people-centered responsible investigation' and as a 'prepared public safety expert.'
In his congratulatory speech at the Police Day ceremony held on the morning of the 21st at the Police Investigation Training Institute in Asan, Chungnam, Commissioner Kim stated, "As we mark the inaugural year of investigative authority reform and the autonomous police system, I will approach my duties with a renewed mindset and greater responsibility."
Commissioner Kim emphasized, "This year's ceremony holds a more special significance than any other year," adding, "Because the long-standing police system has diversified into national, autonomous, and investigative police, opening a new chapter in police history."
He continued, "Based on fairness and expertise that anyone can trust and rely on, we will enhance collaboration with other investigative agencies to realize 'people-centered responsible investigation' and leap forward as a world-class investigative agency. The autonomous police system will also be an opportunity to move closer to the daily lives of the people," he added.
He also stressed the role of the police as prepared public safety experts for the safety of the people amid changing security environments. Commissioner Kim said, "We will proactively and preventively block opportunities for crime and signs of risk to minimize damage, and by enforcing the law fairly and consistently according to principles in all cases, we will root the perception throughout society that 'those who break the law will surely be punished.'"
Commissioner Kim concluded, "Through continuous change and reform, we will surely meet the expectations of the nation and the people," and said, "We will protect the lives and property of the people, safeguard public peace and order, and realize 'the safest country and a police force respected and loved by all.'"
