[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] On the 21st, the number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea recorded 1,441, continuing the four-digit daily case count for the 107th consecutive day.


The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases increased by 1,441 from the previous day to 347,529. The sources of new infections were 1,430 local transmissions and 11 imported cases.


Among the locally transmitted cases, 79.0% or 1,129 cases were reported in the Seoul metropolitan area. Specifically, 502 cases in Seoul, 523 in Gyeonggi, and 104 in Incheon were confirmed.


Non-metropolitan area cases totaled 301. By region, the confirmed cases were ▲Busan 29 ▲Daegu 26 ▲Gwangju 15 ▲Daejeon 8 ▲Ulsan 1 ▲Sejong 8 ▲Gangwon 31 ▲Chungbuk 57 ▲Chungnam 44 ▲Jeonbuk 10 ▲Jeonnam 12 ▲Gyeongbuk 35 ▲Gyeongnam 19 ▲Jeju 6.


There were 11 imported cases. Two were detected during quarantine, and nine were confirmed in the community. Five were Korean nationals and six were foreigners.


Meanwhile, as of midnight, 68,492 people received new COVID-19 vaccinations. The cumulative number of first-dose vaccinations reached 40,584,013. The vaccination rate against the total population is 79.0%, and 91.7% among those aged 18 and over. The number of fully vaccinated individuals increased by 321,965 from the previous day to 34,593,403. The vaccination rate for the second dose is 67.4% of the total population and 78.3% of those aged 18 and over.
