[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] As the spread of COVID-19 slows down, the number of confirmed cases nationwide was counted in the high 1000s as of 6 p.m. on the 20th.

As of 6 PM, 1,074 New Cases Nationwide... 199 Fewer Than Yesterday

According to the quarantine authorities and local governments including Seoul City, a total of 1,074 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide from midnight to 6 p.m. on this day.


This is 199 fewer than the 1,273 cases recorded at the same time the previous day, and 290 fewer than the 1,364 cases reported on Wednesday the 13th, a week ago.


Looking at the regions where confirmed cases were reported on this day, 840 cases (78.2%) were in the metropolitan area, and 234 cases (21.8%) were in non-metropolitan areas.


By city and province, Seoul reported 414 cases, Gyeonggi 344, Incheon 82, Chungbuk 51, Gyeongbuk 36, Busan 26, Daegu 26, Gangwon 23, Chungnam 21, Gyeongnam 16, Gwangju 13, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, and Jeju each 6, and Daejeon 4.


Since there is still time left until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced as of 0 a.m. on the 21st is expected to increase further to around 1,300. On the previous day, 298 cases were added after 6 p.m., closing at a final count of 1,571.


Looking at the new confirmed cases reported over the past week from the 14th to this day, the daily numbers were 1,939 → 1,683 → 1,617 → 1,420 → 1,050 → 1,073 → 1,571, averaging about 1,460 cases per day.


Among these, the daily average of locally transmitted cases excluding imported cases was 1,462.


Major infection cases include cluster infections continuing in everyday places such as university hospitals, churches, and markets.
