A Man in His 50s Who Killed His Ex-Girlfriend, Dismembered and Abandoned the Body... Sent to Prosecution

On the 20th, the Goyang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province sent A (54), who was arrested on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (rape and murder) and corpse mutilation and abandonment, to the prosecution.

A is accused of sexually assaulting and killing B, a woman in her 40s living in Hwajeong-dong, Goyang City, with a weapon around 5 p.m. on August 6, then fleeing the scene. About two weeks later, he returned to B’s house, mutilated her body, and disposed of it in the nearby Changneung Stream riverside bushes.

A had been in a relationship with B for about four months. After B broke up with him and refused to meet, he prepared a weapon in advance, waited in front of B’s house, threatened her with the weapon when she returned home, and committed the crime. The mutilated body was placed in three plastic bags and transported on a motorcycle before being discarded.

After receiving a report of B’s disappearance, the police investigated and suspected A, who was a close acquaintance, as the prime suspect and requested his appearance.

As the police tightened the investigation, A confessed the crime over the phone to a police officer he knew a day before the scheduled appearance on the 11th, then went to the police station with the officer and surrendered.

During this process, A showed meticulousness by predicting the sentence he would receive and, even after surrendering, hiding the fact of the sexual assault and the motive for the crime.

However, based on A’s statement, the police searched the Changneung Stream riverside area and recovered all of B’s mutilated body. Considering that the body’s underwear had been removed and semen was detected on the body, the police further questioned A and eventually obtained a full confession of all the crimes.
