[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] The Blue House stated that it considered the special strategic partnership when it decided to concede the hosting of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A senior Blue House official explained on the 20th, "We made the decision after comprehensively considering the Korea-UAE special strategic partnership, support for the green transition of oil-producing countries in the Middle East, efforts to promote global climate change response, and the linkage with the future hosting of COP33."
The senior Blue House official said, "Regarding the bid for COP28, we had a friendly competition with the UAE, but after considering various relationships, we made a magnanimous decision to support the UAE's hosting."
