[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Jeong Chang-seon) announced on the 20th that it held the ‘Gwangju-Jeonnam Development Project Contest Judging Committee’ and selected 10 innovative projects to lead future regional development.
The contest was planned to discover ideas that respond to the rapidly changing business environment and industrial structure amid the economic downturn caused by COVID-19.
The Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry evaluated appropriateness of purpose, originality, feasibility, sustainability, and content completeness through the judging committee. As a result, one grand prize winner (team), three excellence award winners (teams), and six prize winners (teams) were selected.
The grand prize honor went to ‘Creating a Complex Expo Park for Campers along the Yeongsan River (Jang Jin-tae).’
This project proposed creating a large-scale expo park along the Yeongsan River basin that integrates exhibitions, experiences, shopping, and entertainment centered on camping. It received high scores in evaluation criteria such as appropriateness of purpose, originality of ideas, and regional ripple effects.
The excellence awards went to ‘Advanced Tourism Metaverse Theme Park Development Project (Park Ja-mae Team),’ ‘Establishment of May Observatory and Creation of Sajik History and Culture Tourism Belt (Kim Hyeong-ju),’ and ‘Attracting Large-scale Complex Distribution Facilities (Lim Dong-ryul).’ These projects were highly evaluated not only for their appropriateness of purpose but also for urban regeneration, tourism resource development, and local job creation.
Additionally, the encouragement awards were given to ‘Proposal for Development Plan of Idle Industrial Cultural Facilities in the City Center (Ahn Jeong-hoon),’ ‘Korean Fine Silk Commercialization and Production Complex Strategy (Han Jan-hae Team),’ ‘Blockchain-based Regional Consumption Platform Construction Project (JoinCoin Team),’ ‘Living a Day with Gwangju Products (Shin Deok-hee),’ ‘Establishment of Transportation Hydrogen Charging Station Infrastructure Based on Waste Aluminum Resource Recycling (RH+ Team),’ and ‘Creation of Honam Region’s Largest Gwangju Superland Theme Park (Kim Min-chan).’
The grand prize winner (team) will receive 10 million KRW, each excellence award winner (team) will receive 3 million KRW, and each prize winner (team) will receive 1 million KRW.
The excellent projects discovered this time will be reflected in next year’s Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry projects and proposed as pledges for the next presidential and local elections to each political party and candidate.
A Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry official stated, “Due to the high interest and participation of local citizens in the contest, many innovative ideas for regional development were submitted,” and added, “We plan to actively develop and expand local participation programs such as the Gwangju-Jeonnam Development Project Contest to discover excellent ideas for regional development and firmly fulfill our role as a local think tank.”
