According to EightOne on the 20th, on the 19th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government held the '2021 Seoul Smart City Leaders Forum' online and without an audience under the theme 'Contactless Society and Accelerated Future.' The event, held through Grid's self-developed metaverse platform 'MOIM,' allowed both speakers and citizen audiences to connect as avatars from their own spaces, with all environments such as conference rooms rendered in vivid, realistic 3D, providing a lively and immersive experience.
The final session of the forum featured a new-concept 'roundtable discussion' utilizing the metaverse platform's functions. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, created as a customized avatar model through the metaverse platform 'MOIM,' attended the roundtable and delivered a welcoming address. Under the theme 'Digital Transformation and the Future of Seoul,' speakers including Park Jong-su, Seoul City's Smart City Policy Officer, met with citizen audiences as avatars to discuss Seoul's future, including the Seoul Vision 2030 strategy related to smart cities.
The 'Smart City Leaders Forum,' hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, has been held since 2016 with the agenda of core technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution, aiming to explore cooperation and development plans among Seoul City, businesses, academia, global partners, and inter-city collaboration.
CJ OliveNetworks, which recently signed a strategic business agreement (MOU) with Grid to activate the metaverse platform business, has been actively piloting the introduction of the metaverse platform into city administration following the 'Metaverse Pilot Service Operation Agreement' signed with Seoul City last September.
Choi Cheol-soon, CEO of EightOne and concurrently CEO of Grid, stated, "It is a meaningful case that our self-developed metaverse platform 'MOIM' was applied as a stage for a significant public event diagnosing the changed society and experiencing the future society." He added, "We will continue to increase references and expand user convenience features to provide a fully equipped service as an open platform in the official version."
