KOSPI Continues Slight Decline

KOSPI Taking a Breather... Sideways Trend Continues On the morning of the 20th, when the KOSPI started on an upward trend, employees were working in the dealing room at the Hana Bank headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul.

[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] While the KOSPI continued its slight decline, the KOSDAQ reversed to a slight rise. It appears to be taking a brief pause after a recent steep upward trend.


As of 1:43 PM on the 20th, the KOSPI recorded 3024.03, down 0.17% from the previous day. After a strong start at 3043.13, it shifted to a slight decline around 10:40 AM and has been moving sideways since.


In the KOSPI market, foreigners and individuals net bought 8.7 billion KRW and 231 billion KRW respectively. Conversely, institutions net sold 233.3 billion KRW.


More sectors declined than rose. The largest drops were in Steel & Metals (-2.58%), Non-metallic Minerals (-2.21%), and Machinery (-1.88%). Meanwhile, Paper & Wood (0.51%), Securities (0.42%), and Food & Beverages (0.39%) increased.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ rose 0.07% from the previous day to 1006.04. It also started with a slight rise, briefly turned to a slight decline in the morning, but maintained a small gain compared to the previous day.


In the KOSDAQ market, foreigners and institutions net sold 92.3 billion KRW and 16.9 billion KRW respectively. Individuals purchased 138.8 billion KRW.


The ratio of rising to falling sectors was similar. Entertainment & Culture (3.44%), Broadcasting Services (2.50%), Transportation (2.03%), and Telecommunications & Broadcasting Services (1.92%) rose. On the other hand, Transportation Equipment & Parts (-2.25%), Paper & Wood (-2.23%), and Chemicals (-0.92%) declined.
