[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju Police will implement traffic control measures to minimize traffic inconvenience caused by the general strike of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU).
The Gwangju branch of the KCTU will hold a strike rally near Gwangju City Hall from 2 PM to 6 PM under the theme "Overcoming Inequality and a Great Transition to an Equal Society."
About 2,000 people are expected to attend the rally, which will march from City Hall to the Gwangju branch of the Democratic Party of Korea.
Accordingly, the Gwangju Police Agency will fully restrict both directions of traffic from the Gwangju City Hall intersection to the Bank of Korea intersection until 6 PM on the day.
One side of the road along the march route, from Gwangju City Hall intersection to Peace Park, CGV Gwangju Sangmu branch, Ramada Plaza Gwangju Hotel, and the Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Metropolitan City branch, will also be closed.
Traffic police and police motorcycles will be deployed at major intersections, and patrol cars will secure safety at the front and rear of the procession to enable two-way traffic flow.
A traffic safety official from the Gwangju Police Agency said, "We ask citizens passing near Gwangju City Hall to refer to the march route and try to take detours whenever possible."
