[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Actor Kim Donghyun (real name Kim Hoseong), who was sentenced to probation for fraud involving hundreds of millions of won, has been sentenced again to a suspended prison term for another fraud case.
According to the legal community on the 20th, Judge Jeong Jonggeon of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 9 recently sentenced Kim, who was indicted on fraud charges, to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 2-year probation.
Previously, in August 2014, Kim was prosecuted for borrowing 30 million won from the CEO of a funeral service company, for whom he was an advertising model, by claiming, "I cannot pay the deposit for a house and will repay it by next month," but failing to repay it. At that time, it was investigated that Kim had incurred debts of several hundred million won due to a failed housing sales project, and his real estate had gone to auction. He was also indicted for deceiving another victim in 2016 by promising to transfer the principal and shares related to an apartment project if money was lent, and receiving 50 million won.
The court stated, "The defendant has prior convictions of the same kind and the amount defrauded is large," but considering that the victims reached a settlement and did not want Kim to be punished, the sentence was determined. Meanwhile, Kim was detained in court in the first trial in 2018 for another fraud charge but was released on probation in the appeal trial. He was also fined 10 million won each in 2012 and 2016 for separate fraud charges.
