[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Moon Seung-wook, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, stated on the 20th that he is consulting with related ministries on the reduction of allocation tariffs and fuel taxes applied to natural gas and other fuels.

Minister Moon appeared at the comprehensive audit of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held by the Industry, Trade, and Small and Medium Enterprises Committee of the National Assembly on the same day, and in response to a question from Eom Taeyoung, a member of the People Power Party, who urged active government measures such as reducing fuel taxes, he said, "Since (international oil prices, etc.) are rising due to external factors, we are currently consulting with related ministries, including industry requests (for allocation tariff and fuel tax reductions)."

He added, "Electricity rates are also being managed at the level of last year through measures prepared under the current fuel cost linkage system to minimize the burden on prices and the national economy," and stated, "We will find ways to reduce the burden on the public as much as possible and take action accordingly."
