HMM Launches New Route from Korea to Far East and Northern South America

First Departure from Busan on December 7
Supporting Korean Shippers Including Domestic Export Companies
Calling at Shanghai, Singapore, Santos, and More

HMM Launches New Route from Korea to Far East and Northern South America A 5000 TEU container ship, scheduled to be deployed on HMM's new Korea-origin Far East to South America East Coast service, is preparing to set sail.

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] HMM announced on the 20th that it has newly launched a container liner service connecting the Far East to the east coast of South America to expand its network.

The new Far East to east coast of South America service will be operated solely by HMM, separate from 'THE Alliance,' the shipping alliance HMM is a member of.

The service, departing from Busan for the first time on December 7, will deploy Panamax-class (5,000 TEU) container ships, with a total rotation period of 84 days (round trip).

The reason HMM established the Korea-origin South America east coast service is to protect Korean shippers, including domestic exporters, and to support smooth exports. Recently, as the global shortage of vessels and shipping capacity has intensified, global shipping companies have excluded Korean (Busan) ports from Far East to South America services, causing most Korea-origin South America east coast services to disappear.

The company plans to further expand the service considering the increasing cargo volume in South American regions with high growth potential such as India, Brazil, and Uruguay.

The main ports of call are Busan - Shanghai (China) - Ningbo (China) - Shekou (China) - Singapore - Kattupalli (India) - Durban (South Africa) - Santos (Brazil) - Paranagua (Brazil) - Itapo? (Brazil) - Navegantes (Brazil) - Buenos Aires (Argentina) - Montevideo (Uruguay) - Singapore - Hong Kong - Busan.

An HMM official stated, "Through the launch of the new Far East to South America east coast route, we will provide stable and high-quality services to domestic and international shippers, including securing new customers," adding, "Based on this, we will solidify our position on the Far East to South America east coast route with high growth potential and do our best to maximize profitability."
