Director of 'Warang Sori' Next Work is 'Maemiso-ri'... Special Appearance by Song Ga-in

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Director Lee Chung-ryul, known for the film 'Warang Sori,' has his new work 'Maemiso-ri' invited to the 28th Austin Film Festival.

On the 20th, distributor Dreamfact Entertainment announced that 'Maemiso-ri' will be released in February 2022. The film is a human drama depicting the conflict and reconciliation between a father and daughter who finally face each other after 20 years, caught between life and death. It is the new work of director Lee Chung-ryul, who attracted 2.93 million viewers with the documentary record-breaking 'Warang Sori' (2009).

The film was invited to the 'Korean Cinema Today - Panorama' section at the 25th Busan International Film Festival and subsequently to the 'Marquee Film' section at the 28th Austin Film Festival. The Austin Film Festival is one of the largest film festivals in the United States, promoting the art and business of writers and filmmakers and recognizing contributions to film, TV, and new media. It will be held both online and offline from the 21st to the 28th.

'Maemiso-ri' centers on 'Dasi-raegi,' a traditional folk play performed by clowns and pallbearers in the yard of a mourning house on the night before a funeral, a custom from Jindo region in Jeollanam-do, portraying the conflict and reconciliation between a father and daughter. Especially, the film was shot entirely on location on the beautiful Korean island of Jindo, depicting our unique traditional sounds. Actors Lee Yang-hee, Joo Bo-bi, Seo Yeon-woo, Heo Jin, and Song Yong-sik star in the film, with singer Song Ga-in making a special appearance.

Director Lee Chung-ryul said, "This film was born after 12 years. Like the cicadas' cries filling the midsummer air, I hope the film resonates deeply in people's hearts."
