[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Samsung Display has introduced a self-developed robot for hazardous tasks such as cleaning ceiling crane rails, embarking on creating a safer workplace.
On the 20th, Samsung Display announced that it has developed a 'cleaning robot' that cleans crane rails installed on ceilings over 5 meters high and is utilizing it in production sites. This replaces the cleaning work that workers previously performed by climbing on mobile elevated work platforms, reducing the burden of hazardous tasks and improving work efficiency.
In major OLED processes, crane rail tracks necessary for operating heavy equipment are installed along the production lines. Although essential for product manufacturing, if not cleaned regularly, foreign substances accumulate, which can affect panel quality, making meticulous management essential. The 'cleaning robot' introduced by Samsung Display is an automatic cleaning robot that moves forward or backward along the rail track, vacuuming dust accumulated on the rails. Workers can remotely control the robot from the ground to perform cleaning tasks.

The robot originated from the ideas of Jung Woohyun and Park Gwangdon, professionals in Samsung Display’s Small and Medium Technology Innovation Team. After six months of development, production, and on-site testing, it was immediately applied to the production line. Jung said, "I feel rewarded that an idea born from concern for workers' safety has been practically applied on-site, achieving not only safety but also improved work efficiency."
Samsung Display plans to actively introduce robots and establish automated systems not only for crane cleaning robots but also for high-altitude, high-risk, and heavy repetitive tasks to create a safe work environment and do its utmost to prevent safety accidents. Choi Songcheon, Executive Vice President of Global Infrastructure, said, "Samsung Display’s efforts to create a safe workplace continue 365 days a year," adding, "With the efforts of all employees and partners, we will continuously strive to build an accident-free workplace that is safe and healthy."
