Say "Business Partnership Linkage" Instead of "Biz-Matching"

"Muscle Building" Recommended
as an Alternative to "Bulking Up"

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language recommended on the 20th that the term "biz-matching" be replaced with the Korean expression "business partnership linkage." They also suggested "muscle building" as a Korean alternative to "bulking up."

Biz-matching refers to the process of connecting individuals and companies, organizations and companies, or companies and companies to enhance market competitiveness. The selection of the Korean term "business partnership linkage" reflected the results of a survey. In a public acceptance survey conducted from the 8th to the 13th, about 2,000 people participated, and 97.2% of respondents said the term was appropriate. Additionally, 65.2% agreed on the need to replace foreign terms with Korean alternatives.

Bulking up refers to increasing muscle mass and building up one's physique through dietary adjustments and intensive exercise. At a New Words Committee meeting held on the 6th, the Ministry and the Institute selected "muscle building" as the replacement term.

The New Words Committee is a body that provides easy-to-understand Korean alternatives to difficult foreign neologisms before they become widespread. Experts from various fields, including Korean language, foreign languages, education, public relations and publishing, information and communications, and media, participate in the committee. The Ministry and the Institute plan to continue promoting the use of these alternatives, encouraging government agencies and media outlets to take the lead.
