[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) will jointly hold the 'Regional Balanced New Deal 2021 Good Jobs Forum' on the 25th at 2 p.m. at the Glad Hotel in Yeouido, together with the Presidential Committee on Jobs (Vice Chairman Kim Yong-gi) and the Korea Association of Mayors, Governors and District Heads (Chairman Hwang Myung-seon, Mayor of Nonsan).

This year, under the theme 'A Balanced Future! Innovation in Local Jobs!', the forum will share the achievements of the Regional Balanced New Deal, a key pillar of the government's 'Korean New Deal' initiative over the past year, and discuss the future direction of the Regional Balanced New Deal.

The forum, which brings together central and local government officials and private sector experts from various fields to discuss sustainable, region-centered job policies, will be held in a hybrid format with both online and offline participation, adhering to the government's COVID-19 prevention guidelines with a minimal scale. It will be broadcast live on Yangcheon-gu's official YouTube channel, 'YangcheonTV'.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu and a member of the Presidential Committee on Jobs in the local government sector, has served as a communication channel representing local governments to the central government. Local Governments Will Lead!' will be presented.

Following this, a special lecture titled 'Local Job Crisis and Future Policy Directions' will be delivered by Kim Yong-gi, Vice Chairman of the Jobs Committee. He will explain the necessity of the Regional Balanced New Deal for the success of the Korean New Deal, the challenges involved, and the role of local governments in the Regional Balanced New Deal.

Additionally, Lee Sung, Mayor of Guro-gu and Executive Vice Chairman of the Korea Association of Mayors, Governors and District Heads, will provide a keynote presentation explaining the background of the Regional Balanced New Deal, examples of local government initiatives, and the future direction to be taken.

Professor Lee Seung-hee of Kumoh National Institute of Technology (Director of the Gumi Smart Green Industrial Complex in Gyeongbuk) will propose policies for regional balanced development, including assetization of local communities and fostering strategic regional industries. Kim Jae-min, CEO of the Regional Economy Green Alliance, will present a collaborative model for energy projects in local building clusters to create green new deal jobs.

□ 2021 Good Jobs Forum: A Starting Point for the Successful Implementation of the Korean New Deal

As entities that best understand local characteristics and maintain direct communication with residents, local governments will play a pioneering role in accelerating the major transition to the Digital and Green New Deals.”

He added, “I hope that the wisdom and insight of all participants gathered at this forum, which shares the achievements of the Korean New Deal over the past year and seeks new paths for future innovation and balanced development of local jobs, will enable local governments and, ultimately, the Republic of Korea to become leaders in the post-COVID era.”
