Prosecutors Request Arrest Warrant for Businessman on 3.5 Billion Won Fraud Charges

Prosecutors Request Arrest Warrant for Businessman on 3.5 Billion Won Fraud Charges

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A businessman identified as Mr. A, who is accused of borrowing tens of billions of won from an acquaintance and failing to repay it, has had an arrest warrant requested.

The Violent Crime Investigation Unit of the Gwangju Police Agency announced on the 19th that they have applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A, who is accused of borrowing 3.5 billion won from an acquaintance and not repaying it (fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes), due to concerns that he might flee or destroy evidence.

The warrant has been submitted to the court, and the date for the pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant substantive examination) has not yet been set.

Mr. A is accused of approaching victim Mr. B by offering to sell land located in Naju-si, Jeollanam-do, valued at approximately 20 billion won, and borrowing 3.5 billion won from him without repaying it.

However, Mr. A is reportedly claiming that the money was not borrowed but received as payment for the land sale.

The police first became aware of this case through the investigation by the Crime Intelligence Analysis Team, and currently, based on witness and reference testimonies, they are judging that the money was a loan rather than a commission.
