Seoul City Supports Young Single-Person Households Moving from Other Regions with 'Welcome Box'... 3,600 Supported This Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 20th that it has started a project to gift ‘Welcome Boxes’ to young single-person households who have moved to Seoul from other regions, helping them quickly and enjoyably adapt to life in Seoul. This year, 3,600 people will be supported.

The Welcome Box contains various useful Seoul living information and a Seoul map, as well as a safety kit as basic items. Additionally, recipients can choose one of three sets according to their interests: ‘Home Training Set’, ‘Tableware Set’, or ‘Home Interior Set’.

Common items included in all Welcome Boxes are a youth-friendly guidebook introducing various Seoul city policies to assist young single-person households new to Seoul life, called ‘Seoul Jalalji’, a ‘Seoul Guide Map’ introducing Seoul landmarks and youth spaces, a ‘Safety Something Kit’ including flame-retardant pads and whistles to prevent safety accidents, and a first aid kit.

The Welcome Box is available to young single-person households aged 19 to 29 who have moved to Seoul from other cities or provinces within the past year. Applications will be accepted online through the Seoul Youth Portal starting on the 21st. Applicants must access the portal, participate in a survey, upload a resident registration transcript file verifying their age, single-person household status, Seoul move-in status, and move-in date, then select the type of Welcome Box they wish to receive to complete the application. Among those who meet the eligibility criteria, 3,600 people will be randomly selected and the boxes will be delivered to the addresses provided by applicants in November.

Lee Young-mi, head of the Seoul Youth Project Division, said, “As the number of young single-person households moving to Seoul rapidly increases, we started the ‘Welcome Box’ support project by listening to the opinions of young people themselves to help them actively utilize Seoul’s youth policies and administrative services and quickly adapt to life in Seoul.” She added, “We support the bright Seoul life of young single-person households starting a new life in unfamiliar Seoul.”
