[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Changwon City in Gyeongnam has been selected for the "2022 Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project" announced by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to expand the supply of renewable energy.
This achievement marks the third consecutive year of being selected in the competition, following projects in Dong-eup, Uichang-gu and Idong, Jinhae-gu in 2020, and Gusan-myeon, Masanhappo-gu in 2021.
After publicly recruiting participating companies in April, the project focused on the supply of renewable energy and the establishment of an eco-friendly energy transition plan targeting Jindong, Jinbuk, and Jinjeon-myeon in Masanhappo-gu.
With this selection, the city will receive 1.478 billion KRW in national funding and invest a total of approximately 2.891 billion KRW to install solar power facilities at 266 locations with a capacity of 1,567 kW and solar thermal facilities at 17 locations covering 102㎡ by December 2022 in residential and other facilities.
The project is expected to produce 2,059,038 Wh of eco-friendly electricity annually, replace 478 TOE of fossil fuels, reduce 873 tons of carbon dioxide, and create about 40 jobs in the private sector.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu stated, "Being selected in the competition is expected to contribute to the expansion of renewable energy supply and the realization of energy welfare such as reducing electricity bills for consumers," adding, "We will do our best to advance Changwon as a carbon-neutral leading city through the transition to eco-friendly energy."
