[Asia Economy Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist Reporter] The prosecution investigating allegations of preferential treatment and lobbying in the Daejang-dong development project summoned and questioned a relative of former special prosecutor Park Young-soo, who is known to have received about 10 billion KRW from Kim Man-bae, the major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu.
According to legal circles on the 19th, the dedicated investigation team of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office summoned and questioned Lee, the CEO of a sales agency company, in the afternoon.
Lee is a distant relative of former special prosecutor Park. In January 2014, Park served as an outside director for one month at a KOSDAQ-listed company where Lee was CEO, and Park's son worked for another company operated by Lee for three months starting November 2015.
Lee, who was in charge of sales agency for the Daejang-dong project from 2014 to 2015, reportedly received 2 billion KRW along with a request for business rights from Na, the CEO of a civil engineering construction company. However, Na ultimately failed to secure the civil engineering business rights and demanded Lee return the money.
It was revealed that in 2019, Lee received about 10 billion KRW from Kim, the major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu, and returned it to Na. This money is said to be part of the 47.3 billion KRW long-term loan Kim borrowed from Hwacheon Daeyu.
There have been suspicions that part of the 10 billion KRW handed from Kim to Lee was passed on to former special prosecutor Park.
Former special prosecutor Park maintains that there was no financial transaction with Lee.
