Daewoo Shipbuilding Demonstrates Technical Excellence at Korea's Largest Shipbuilding and Offshore Exhibition

Introducing Next-Generation Icebreaking LNG Ships and Korean-Style Light Aircraft Carriers

Daewoo Shipbuilding Demonstrates Technical Excellence at Korea's Largest Shipbuilding and Offshore Exhibition

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) showcased its technological prowess by participating in the largest shipbuilding and marine exhibition in Korea.

DSME announced that it took part in 'Kormarine 2021,' the largest domestic shipbuilding and marine industry exhibition held from the 19th to the 22nd. Kormarine is a biennial exhibition held in odd-numbered years, representing the largest shipbuilding and marine industry event in Korea. Over 600 companies worldwide participate, comprehensively presenting the latest technologies, finished products, and advanced equipment in shipbuilding, offshore plants, oil, and gas sectors.

This time, DSME prepared an exhibition space of 108㎡ (approximately 33 pyeong) in strict accordance with COVID-19 safety measures and did its utmost to inform shipowners and industry stakeholders about its advanced technology while thoroughly complying with quarantine rules.

In particular, DSME showcased videos of the next-generation icebreaking LNG carrier, which recently secured orders and demonstrated its technological capabilities, including the order story and actual icebreaking sea trials. Models of the high-pressure dual-fuel propulsion (ME-GI) LNG carrier and the Korean-type light aircraft carrier (CVX) were also prominently promoted.

Regarding the Korean-type light aircraft carrier, which is currently under accelerated development, an exhibition model reflecting intermediate achievements was unveiled. Due to the nature of aircraft carriers, integration with aircraft is the most critical technical element. To this end, DSME signed a technology cooperation agreement with Italy's Fincantieri during the 'MADEX 2021' event held at BEXCO in Busan last June, focusing on the development and acquisition of related technologies, with plans to enhance completeness by the end of this year. Fincantieri is the only shipyard with experience in constructing a vessel most similar to the operational concept of the Korean-type light aircraft carrier.

Meanwhile, DSME attracted significant attention with its Arctic icebreaking LNG carrier, which breaks the ice of the Arctic and boasts world-class competitiveness, at 'Gastech 2021,' the world's largest gas industry exhibition held in the hot and dry desert city of Dubai last September. DSME operated its exhibition space alongside the ordering company, Russia's Novatek, drawing high interest from participants.
