Deployment of Dialogue Police, Restraint from Illegal Activities and Strict Measures

On the morning of the 18th, Jeonnam Police Agency held a meeting chaired by Kim Jaegyu, Chief of Jeonnam Police Agency, to discuss countermeasures related to the "10·20 KCTU General Strike," the agency announced on the 19th.
Despite the government's repeated requests to refrain from rallies and resolve issues through dialogue, the KCTU has announced plans to proceed with large-scale illegal rallies simultaneously nationwide.
Jeonnam police urged people to refrain from participating in rallies, as there are concerns about the resurgence of COVID-19 due to large-scale gatherings at this critical time of phased return to normal life.
The National Police Agency also stated that it will actively suppress and block large-scale illegal rallies in areas such as downtown Seoul, where rallies and events are currently prohibited, by utilizing available personnel and equipment from the assembly stage.
A Jeonnam Police Agency official said, “We will minimize citizen inconvenience through traffic control around rally sites and deploy dialogue police to encourage restraint from illegal acts and prevent safety accidents. At the same time, we will strictly respond to illegal rallies exceeding the reported number of participants in accordance with the Assembly and Demonstration Act, the Infectious Disease Prevention Act, and other laws and principles.”
