[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] Gwanghallu Garden and Namwon Aerospace Astronomy Observatory, representative tourist attractions in Namwon, Jeonbuk, have been selected for the 2022 Open Tourism Site Development Project.
According to the city on the 19th, this project aims to resolve mobility inconveniences within tourist sites for vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, the elderly, and families with infants and young children, and to develop tourism content that everyone can enjoy, thereby making tourism activities easier and more convenient for all citizens.
Following the selection for this project, the city plans to finalize detailed plans through customized on-site consulting by experts and will invest a total of 1 billion KRW (500 million KRW from the national government and 500 million KRW from the city) starting next year to actively promote the Open Tourism Site Development Project at Gwanghallu Garden and Namwon Aerospace Astronomy Observatory.
Previously, in 2019, the city achieved results by establishing a foundation for barrier-free tourism routes through the same project by improving restrooms and installing wheelchair ramps at Namwon Tourist Site, the Holy Land of Gugak, Jirisan Herb Valley, and Baekdudaegan Ecological Education Exhibition Hall.
A city official said, “Through this project, we will expand barrier-free tourist sites within the city to revitalize local tourism,” and added, “We will do our best to create tourist sites that anyone can visit without exclusion.”
