[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Lee In-young, Minister of Unification, stated that "we are at a crossroads to advance the Korean Peninsula into a history of peace" and emphasized that despite difficulties, we must not give up on peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.
In a video message at the '2021 DMZ Peace Forum' on the 19th, Minister Lee said, "We must end the era of confrontation and discord and make every effort until the very end to firmly establish complete and lasting peace."
Minister Lee noted, "On October 4th, the inter-Korean communication line was restored, and we are at an important crossroads to take one more step forward in making the Korean Peninsula a history of peace again," emphasizing, "Even in the face of difficulties and obstacles, we must never give up or stop our steps toward peaceful coexistence and shared prosperity on the Korean Peninsula."
He also mentioned that through the 2018 Panmunjom Declaration and the September 19 Military Agreement, the DMZ has transformed beyond a physical buffer zone between North and South Korea into a space for various cooperation and coexistence, stating, "It is time for the North and South to jointly nurture and develop the DMZ."
