Jeonju City and Jinan County Sign Business Agreement to Jointly Promote Jeonju Seunghwawon Modernization Project
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju Seunghwawon can now be used not only by Jeonju citizens and Wanju residents but also by Jinan residents on equal terms.
Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su and Jinan County Governor Jeon Chun-seong signed a business agreement on the 19th to jointly promote the modernization project of Jeonju Seunghwawon (cremation facility).
This agreement was promoted so that Jeonju City and Jinan County could jointly carry out the cremation facility modernization project for mutual regional development and improvement of residents' convenience, and set and implement major cooperation tasks to create a dignified funeral culture.
According to the agreement, Jinan County will bear the construction cost of the new Seunghwawon according to its population, and the modernization project cost and maintenance cost of the cremation facility will also be jointly invested in proportion to the population.
Once the modernization project is completed, Jinan residents will be able to use the cremation facility on equal terms with Jeonju citizens and Wanju residents.
Currently, Jinan residents can only use the facility in the afternoon with a usage fee of 300,000 KRW, but after the completion of Seunghwawon, the usage fee will be 70,000 KRW and it will be available both in the morning and afternoon.
Jeonju City and Jinan County plan to form a working council to implement the agreement and actively cooperate to efficiently use land, prevent financial burdens on local governments, and avoid budget waste for the successful promotion of the project.
Jeonju Seunghwawon, built in 1977, will be newly constructed in 2023 to improve the funeral convenience for users who have experienced inconvenience due to the aging facilities.
The Seunghwawon will be about 2,800㎡ in size, including a waiting room for bereaved families and a designated scattering area for ashes, and will be operated under consignment by the Jeonju Facilities Management Corporation.
Prior to this, Jeonju City signed a business agreement with Wanju County in 2019 to jointly promote the modernization project of Jeonju Seunghwawon.
Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su said, “Once the Jeonju Seunghwawon modernization project is promoted, Jeonju citizens, Wanju residents, and Jinan residents will be able to conveniently use a solemn and dignified funeral culture facility together,” and added, “We will continue to unite our efforts for win-win development projects where Jeonju City and Jinan County can grow together.”
Jinan County Governor Jeon Chun-seong also said, “This agreement was made with Jeonju citizens who receive water from Yongdam Lake for daily use,” and expressed gratitude to Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su, Jeonju city council members, and Jeonju citizens.
