Damyang-gun Eases 'Emergency Welfare Support' Criteria for Low-Income Crisis Households Until the End of This Year

[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 19th that it will extend the relaxed emergency welfare support criteria for protecting low-income crisis households until December.

Emergency welfare support is a system that temporarily and promptly provides welfare services such as emergency living expenses and medical expenses to low-income households struggling to maintain their livelihood due to sudden crisis situations such as the death, unemployment, or illness of a major income earner.

As the number of households facing difficulties due to COVID-19 increased, under the temporarily relaxed support criteria, households with a median income of 75% or less, general property of 170 million KRW or less, and financial assets of 7,742,000 KRW or less for single-person households are eligible for support.

Selected recipients receive living expenses of 1.26 million KRW based on a four-person household and medical expenses up to 3 million KRW.

From October, the winter season, to March next year, households receiving the main emergency welfare benefits (living and housing expenses) will also receive an additional monthly fuel cost of 98,000 KRW.

Applications can be made at the town or township offices of the residence, and after on-site verification, priority support is provided. The appropriateness is reviewed based on the investigated income and property criteria to decide on the extension.

The county has supported 462 households with 310.52 million KRW through active crisis household discovery and case management until the end of September this year.

A county official said, “We will do our best to discover crisis households so that neighbors struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic can overcome their crises.”
