[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] It has been revealed that the number of investigation review requests submitted to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency this year has nearly reached 500 cases.
On the 19th, according to the 'Status of Investigation-related Complaints and Objections Received in the Last 5 Years' submitted by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency to Yang Ki-dae, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, the number of investigation review requests, which are complaints and objections related to investigations, received up to August this year is 497 cases.
This is overwhelmingly higher compared to the 193 cases received by the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, which ranked second.
Furthermore, the numbers recorded were 347 cases in 2016, 316 cases in 2017, 274 cases in 2018, 364 cases in 2019, and 473 cases in 2020, showing an upward trend over the past four years.
Also, the number of acknowledged investigation errors by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, which was 22 cases in 2019, was recorded as 50 cases in 2020 and 34 cases as of August 2021.
Representative Yang said, "The fact that the number of investigation review requests is high and the acknowledgment of investigation errors is the highest nationwide indicates that there were clear violations of regulations during the investigation process," adding, "Measures to prevent the recurrence of investigation errors must be prepared, and thorough corrections should be made when investigation errors are acknowledged."
