'Venom 2' Tops Box Office in 39 Countries

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The movie 'Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage' (director Andy Serkis) has held the top spot at the box office for the sixth consecutive day. It ranked first in 39 countries over the past weekend.

According to the Korea Film Council's integrated box office system on the 19th, 'Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage' (hereafter 'Venom 2') attracted 65,038 viewers on the 18th, securing the number one position at the box office. Since its release on the 13th, it has drawn a cumulative audience of 1,161,621.

'Venom 2' is an action blockbuster depicting an inevitable showdown between the lovable villain hero Venom (Tom Hardy) and the worst villain in history, Carnage (Woody Harrelson), who appears to herald an era of great chaos. It is the sequel to 'Venom,' released in 2018.

The film premiered in 45 countries worldwide and topped the box office in 39 countries including Spain and Italy over the past weekend. In North America, it was released on the 1st, 12 days earlier than in Korea, and has gained popularity with a worldwide revenue of $283 million.

Unique collaborations for domestic audiences are also noteworthy. A collaboration music video titled 'Change Up' was released with rapper Mushvenom, the runner-up of Mnet's survival program 'Show Me The Money 9.' Additionally, Kim Jeonghwan and Gu Bonggil, gold medalists at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, showcased villain hero transformation photo shoots, drawing positive responses.
