Lee Jae-myung's '3rd Disaster Basic Income' Paid to 2.05 Million People in 18 Days... 81.7%

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, announced that the application and payment rate for the 3rd Disaster Basic Income, which provides 250,000 KRW per person in a non-refundable form to the top 12% income earners in the province excluded from the government's disaster relief fund, surpassed 80% in just 18 days.

Gyeonggi Province stated on the 19th that as of the 17th, the application and payment rate for the 3rd Disaster Basic Income, which was 79.9%, exceeded 80% in 18 days with a payment rate of 81.7%, as 2,059,552 people out of the 2,520,598 eligible recipients received the payment.

An official from the province explained, "Gyeonggi Province's 3rd Disaster Basic Income provides 250,000 KRW per person, the same amount as the government's mutual aid fund, to those excluded from the government's payment," adding, "In particular, the 3rd Disaster Basic Income was promoted with the intention of being paid to all Gyeonggi residents without discrimination and in a fair and equitable manner."

Previously, Governor Lee Jae-myung criticized the government's decision to exclude the top 12% income earners from the disaster relief fund paid to 88% of the population, citing issues of fairness and equity. In consultation with the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, he secured a separate budget and decided to provide the same amount in a non-refundable form to the residents excluded from the support target.
