October 18 Gyeonggi Province National Audit
It is clear that the development profits from Daejang-dong were not fully recovered
Apology to the people suffering from a sense of loss
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, reiterated his apology on the 18th regarding the Daejang-dong scandal.
In his closing remarks at the Gyeonggi Province audit by the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee that day, Lee referred to Yoo Dong-gyu, former Planning Director of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, who was detained on charges including bribery and breach of trust, saying, "Even if I had 100 mouths, there is nothing to say because it is a fact. As the person with personnel authority and as a manager, this shows my shortcomings, and I deeply apologize once again for this."
He continued, "I have a strong interest in corruption as I researched it in my graduate thesis, and I have made every effort to minimize it, but unfortunately, it seems that problems occurred among the people I directed."
Regarding the Daejang-dong scandal, he said, "As one of the people responsible for this matter, I feel an immense sense of responsibility," emphasizing, "Although I did my best, it is clear that I was insufficient in fully recovering the development profits from Daejang-dong."
Finally, he stated, "Through this opportunity, I once again apologize to the citizens who are suffering from a sense of loss and exclusion," and stressed, "I will take responsibility by saying that I will do my utmost to ensure that such incidents never happen again through better policies and systems, preventing the private sector from colluding with political power to acquire unjust unearned income on a large scale and ensuring that citizens do not feel relative deprivation."
