China denied media reports that it secretly test-fired a hypersonic missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular briefing on the 18th in response to questions about the hypersonic missile test launch, "This test was a routine spacecraft test to verify reusable spacecraft technology."
He added, "This is significant in reducing the cost of using spacecraft," and explained, "It can provide an inexpensive and convenient way for humanity to peacefully use outer space." He also noted, "Several companies around the world are conducting similar experiments."
Earlier, on the 16th (local time), major foreign media reported that China test-fired a hypersonic missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons, surprising U.S. intelligence agencies.
