Jin Joong-kwon "Governor Lee Promised Private Development of Daejang-dong"
Lee Jae-myung Denies Allegations of Lawyer Fee Payment
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate and governor of Gyeonggi Province, claimed that "the People Power Party opposed public development" in relation to the Daejang-dong development project allegations. Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon rebutted this as a "lie."
Earlier, on the 18th, Lee appeared at the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee audit and said, "If Daejang-dong had been publicly developed, all profits would have been recovered. However, the Park Geun-hye administration's policy was to minimize public development and promote privatization, so public development was institutionally impossible."
He continued, "Would someone take money from themselves? If the People Power Party had forced private development as they claim, 615 billion won would have gone to private developers. Because I recovered some through public-private joint development, the private developers' share was only 177 billion won."
He added, "If I had done full public ownership as I intended, all profits would have belonged to the citizens. But since it was a public-private joint project, we recovered 150 billion won. Those who divided the money corresponding to the private share are the People Power Party members," raising his voice.
In response, former professor Jin said on 'Won Hee-ryong TV,' operated by former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong, "Lee lied at the audit. As a lawyer, he pledged to develop Daejang-dong privately, and Seongnam City actively supported it. The claim that the People Power Party blocked 100% public development is a lie."
He pointed out, "He stopped the public development by LH himself, then proceeded with the Daejang-dong public-private joint development. But now he lies that he originally wanted public development and that the People Power Party opposed it."

Meanwhile, the audit also raised the issue of 'alleged lawyer fee payments by a third party.'
Kim Hyung-dong, a People Power Party lawmaker, said to Lee, "Recently, the Awake Citizens Solidarity filed a complaint against you for bribery. It is alleged that a certain lawyer defended your wife and received promises or support from a third-party company."
Regarding this, Lee said, "I paid all fees to four personal lawyers appointed for five trials, six lawyers from law firms, other resigned law firm lawyers, and three former presidents of Minbyun (Lawyers for a Democratic Society). I agree to account tracking, so do it anytime. It was about 250 million won."
He added, "I paid all lawyer fees, which amount to a little over 250 million won. Most are colleagues from the Judicial Research and Training Institute or law school friends."
In response, Professor Jin emphasized, "If you give such an answer, all documents related to lawyer appointments must be submitted for verification. If they gave discounts or free services because they were training institute colleagues, it all violates the Kim Young-ran Act."
