Gwangju Nam Ho-hyun, Nam-gu Council Member, Proposes Bill for Free Rental 'Sharing Center' of Welfare Equipment

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The "Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of the Gwangju Nam-gu Welfare Equipment Sharing Center," proposed by Nam Ho-hyun, a member of the Nam-gu Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City, was passed by the Social Construction Committee on the 15th, providing a basis for lending welfare equipment free of charge to Nam-gu residents.


According to the ordinance, it includes provisions to provide welfare assistive devices support and repair services for mobility devices for the disabled, elderly, and residents.


Councilor Nam allowed the establishment and consignment operation of the "Welfare Equipment Sharing Center" through the Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Disabled and non-profit organizations within Nam-gu, and the center is to purchase and secure welfare equipment to lend free of charge to Nam-gu residents.


However, even for areas outside the district, lending is limited to cooperative institutions that have signed business agreements related to welfare equipment or organizations that have donated welfare equipment upon request.


The lending period is up to 90 days per item per person, with the possibility of extending the period up to a maximum of one year.


Additionally, repair costs for mobility devices can be supported up to 300,000 KRW annually for basic livelihood security recipients and lower-income groups, and up to 150,000 KRW for the disabled.


Councilor Nam stated, "Through the enactment of this ordinance, we aim to contribute to improving the convenience of daily life and promoting social participation for both general residents and the disabled."
