Who Recommended Special Prosecutor Park Young-soo? Ruling and Opposition Parties' 'Battle'... Results of the 'Fact Check'

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] At the Gyeonggi Province National Assembly audit, a dispute arose over which party recommended former special prosecutor Park Young-soo, who has been implicated in the Daejang-dong development scandal. Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate and governor of Gyeonggi Province, pointed out that individuals related to the People Power Party were involved, citing Park and others. Following protests from the People Power Party, a fact-check was conducted by the Administrative Safety Committee.

At the National Assembly Administrative Safety Committee audit held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government on the 18th, candidate Lee said regarding the Daejang-dong development scandal, "The person with the money is indeed the culprit," adding, "This can be revealed by tracing accounts or funds, and based on the results so far, it is the People Power Party." He argued, "If you think about why this side (People Power Party) took more, it is because they oppressed me and forced private development, leading to a semi-private, semi-public development, so it makes sense to compensate that side."

He continued, "Among the list, Assemblyman Kwak Sang-do's son received 5 billion won, former special prosecutor Park's daughter received a special apartment allocation, and reports say he is also expected to receive a large retirement allowance. Former Saenuri Party floor leader Won Yoo-chul went to prison, so his wife received consulting fees on his behalf, but what could she have done instead?" He said, "It has been revealed that all are figures related to the People Power Party." He added, "Except for the person related to me who allegedly took bribes, there is no one else, right? The Democratic Party has none, right?"

In response, Park Wan-soo, the opposition party secretary of the Administrative Safety Committee and a People Power Party lawmaker, rebutted, "The individuals mentioned are not members of the People Power Party, so deliberately associating them with the People Power Party is perjury," and said, "Former special prosecutor Park was recommended by the opposition party."

Regarding this, Seo Young-kyo, chair of the Administrative Safety Committee, conducted a fact-check on which party recommended former special prosecutor Park. Afterwards, Chair Seo stated, "The fact-check results show that former special prosecutor Park was appointed by former President Park Geun-hye from among special prosecutor candidates recommended by the opposition party at the time, which was the People’s Party," and added, "We conclude the fact that he was recommended by the People’s Party."
