Naju-si Selected as an 'Outstanding Local Government' for Senior Health Checkup Project

[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 18th that it was selected as an excellent local government for the 2021 Elderly Health Checkup Project supported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare.

This award was based on the achievement of conducting health checkups for low-income seniors aged 65 and over last year, improving elderly health levels through early detection and treatment of chronic diseases and senile dementia.

The city conducted a home health care project targeting about 5,000 elderly people with mobility difficulties, classifying their health status through health interviews and basic health examinations (blood pressure, blood sugar measurement, and health counseling), and provided medication management, health habit improvement, and chronic disease prevention education.

They identified 388 vulnerable elderly individuals (320 households), conducted a full health problem survey through visits by public health center nurses, and registered 31 households requiring continuous management in the home health care system to provide customized health services.

The city signed a health checkup agreement with the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the Population Health and Welfare Association, providing health checkup opportunities for 221 low-income seniors aged 65 and over.

Those with abnormal findings underwent secondary examinations to detect chronic diseases early, contributing to ensuring a vibrant old age for the elderly.

Additionally, the city promoted initiatives such as distributing 7,000 stool collection kits for colorectal cancer screening, supporting joint surgeries for six medically vulnerable individuals, providing eye disease surgeries (17 people) including for visual impairments, conducting巡回 health checkups at 66 senior centers (3,275 people), testing for hypertension and diabetes complications (131 people), and distributing 1,500 households with cardiovascular disease prevention posters.

Mayor Kang In-gyu stated, “Regardless of economic conditions, we will discover and promote various health checkup projects that seniors can feel, such as home health care and巡回 health checkups at senior centers, so that all elderly people can enjoy a healthy old age.”
