[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] An opportunity has arisen to see the actual engine, the core device of the Nuri rocket, which is scheduled to launch on the 21st.
Hanwha announced that from the 19th, for five days at Seoul Airport in Seongnam City, it will exhibit the actual 75-ton liquid rocket engine of the Nuri rocket at Seoul ADEX 2021. Hanwha Aerospace, which directly manufactured the engine, along with Hanwha Systems and Hanwha Defense, defense-related affiliates of the Hanwha Group, have set up a separate exhibition hall called the Space Hub at this event.
The liquid rocket engine being unveiled this time is the core device of the Nuri rocket, independently developed by South Korea under the leadership of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute since 2010. It incorporates advanced technology to withstand extreme conditions such as high temperature, high pressure, and cryogenic temperatures while the launch vehicle overcomes gravity and reaches orbit. Hanwha Aerospace has participated in the engine, turbopump, and test facility construction from the early stages of the project.
Hanwha has participated in various government projects in fields such as kick motors, satellites, and engines since the early days of South Korea's aerospace industry. In line with the trend of private sector-led space projects, it is strengthening its development capabilities. At this event, Hanwha Corporation, the holding company, will showcase solid-fuel space launch vehicles, and Hanwha Systems will present low Earth orbit satellite communication services.
A Hanwha official said, "We have participated in various satellite projects since the 1990s," adding, "We will activate the ecosystem in all necessary space industry fields, including launch vehicles, planetary exploration, Korean GPS, and Earth observation and communication services through various satellites."
