[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced that the winter visitor, the Hooded Crane, arrived at the Suncheonman tidal flat five days earlier than last year, on the morning of the 18th.

The three Hooded Crane vanguard birds observed that day are currently resting at the Suncheonman tidal flat.

Izumi City in Japan also reported the first arrival of 19 Hooded Cranes this morning, signaling the start of the full-scale migration of Hooded Cranes.

The Suncheon Hooded Crane Farming Group will complete the harvest by the end of this month and switch to migratory bird guardian activities starting next month.

They plan to install reed fences around the Hooded Crane Hope Agricultural Complex to restrict vehicle and pedestrian traffic and provide eco-friendly rice seeds to offer a stable habitat for the birds.

During the winter migratory bird arrival period, the city will partially open the section from Mujin Bridge to the birdwatching platform to Anpung Wetland, which had been temporarily closed, and operate a Hooded Crane birdwatching course exclusively for visitors to Suncheonman, aiming to protect the migratory bird habitat while fostering a birdwatching culture.

A city official stated, “The Hooded Crane, Natural Monument No. 228, is an internationally endangered species and a peace messenger freely traveling north and south along the borderless sky routes,” adding, “We hope for much interest and participation in the Hooded Crane International Photography Contest, which is being promoted as part of the Lumi Skyway Connection Project.”

Meanwhile, the ‘Hooded Crane International Photography Contest’ accepts submissions of up to three photos per person, with a minimum long side of 3000 pixels, via email or the contest website until the 29th.
