'Weekend in Mokpo' Jeonnam Residents' Day Event Opens

'Weekend in Mokpo' Jeonnam Residents' Day Event Opens


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] This weekend, the ‘25th Jeollanam-do Residents' Day’ commemorative event will be held in Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do, featuring a variety of programs.


On the 18th, the city announced that this year’s commemorative event will take place from the 23rd to the 25th at the main stage, Peace Square, and throughout Mokpo City. Since October 25 was designated as Residents' Day, the event had only been held as the opening ceremony of the Jeonnam Sports Festival, but since last year, it has been separated and held independently.


Under the theme ‘Again Jeonnam,’ this year’s event will minimize the number of participants in accordance with COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. Residents wishing to participate on-site can apply in advance through the ‘Residents' Day homepage.’


All programs will be broadcast live online on the Jeollanam-do Residents' Day homepage.


On the 23rd, there will be a special lecture by the famous historian Shim Yonghwan, head of the History N Education Research Institute, the first part of a premium opera gala concert, a youth soccer class with Kim Taeyoung, manager of Cheonan City Football Club and a hero of the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup from Goheung, and a residents’ healing concert by Andante and Harmonize.


On the 24th, there will be a special lecture by Jeon Uichan, chairman of the Climate Change Subcommittee of the 2050 Carbon Neutrality Committee and a leading authority in climate change, the second part of the premium opera gala concert, a youth baseball class with Kim Dongju, a former national baseball team slugger and third baseman, and a special show by world-renowned magician Lee Eungyul. On the 25th, Residents' Day, a commemorative ceremony will be held at Peace Square.


In addition, contests and quiz competitions will be held on the Residents' Day homepage.


A city official stated, “We will actively cooperate with Jeollanam-do to ensure that this year’s commemorative event, prepared with high-quality programs, proceeds smoothly and provides a meaningful time for the residents of Mokpo and Jeollanam-do.”
