Geochang-gun Completes Improvement Construction of Convenience Facilities for Visitors at Memorial Hall

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 18th that it has completed facility improvement construction to provide convenience for visitors using the columbarium at 'Geochang-gun Columbarium.'

This construction was promoted to enhance the convenience of visitors by expanding and paving the access road to allow vehicle passing, installing facility security, and safety facilities, as the use of the columbarium has been increasing with over 7,000 visitors since the new columbarium was built and opened year-round on November 9 last year.

The county secured a budget of 390 million KRW to expand and pave 456 meters of the access road, install an outdoor gate at the public park cemetery, an outdoor rest area for visitors, safety fences for heating and cooling equipment, and water supply facilities.

The Geochang-gun Columbarium was newly constructed with a budget of 2.9 billion KRW due to the continuous increase in enshrinements within the columbarium facilities at the Geochang-eup public park cemetery. Completed on November 9, 2020, it is a two-story building with an area of 550.18㎡ and a capacity of 4,704 niches (3,024 individual niches and 1,680 couple niches). Additionally, regulations were amended to allow any county resident to use the facility, and by operating a pleasant columbarium, about 600 visitors use it monthly.

Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, said, “In line with the changing funeral culture, Geochang-gun is leading the way in creating a healthy funeral culture by operating a pleasant columbarium,” and added, “We will continue to pay attention to ensure convenient visits to the columbarium for visitors.”
