[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 18th that two additional cases tested positive for COVID-19 after being classified as contacts related to a local soccer club and undergoing self-quarantine and testing.

The confirmed cases, students belonging to the soccer club, received inconclusive COVID-19 test results on the 15th and were self-quarantining. They were confirmed positive after testing again on the 17th. There is no movement history.

Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, stated, “While preparing for a return to pre-COVID-19 daily life, it is important to ensure that excessive relaxation of quarantine vigilance does not lead to a rapid spread of the outbreak.” He added, “We ask the residents to continuously follow quarantine guidelines and cooperate in increasing vaccination rates for a smooth phased recovery of daily life.”

Meanwhile, the county announced that from the 18th to the 31st, the third level of social distancing across Gyeongnam Province will be extended for two weeks. Although some quarantine rules centered on fully vaccinated individuals will be eased, they earnestly requested compliance and participation in quarantine measures based on autonomy and responsibility to prevent excessive relaxation of vigilance.
