Emergency Living Expenses and Medical Costs for Low-Income Households Facing Financial Hardship
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 18th that the criteria for selecting emergency welfare support recipients will be relaxed until December 31 due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Emergency welfare support is a system that temporarily and promptly provides welfare services such as emergency living expenses and medical expenses to low-income households facing sudden crisis situations such as the death, unemployment, or illness of a major income earner, making it difficult to maintain their livelihood.
Among households in crisis situations, if they meet the income (below 75% of median income) and property (general property below 101 million KRW, financial assets below 5 million KRW) criteria, they can receive emergency welfare benefits such as living, medical, housing, and education support depending on the situation.
According to the temporarily relaxed support criteria, those with income below 75% of the median income, general property below 170 million KRW, and financial assets below 7,742,000 KRW for a single-person household can receive support.
Additionally, livelihood difficulties caused by COVID-19 are recognized as an expanded reason for crisis. The number of support times was previously limited to no re-support within 2 years for the same crisis reason, but now re-support is possible 6 months after the end of the emergency support.
